August 1

We began very early to paint at the Mercy Home. Yesterday was a celebration for the 15th year, so visitors came as well as extended family. The home is made up of 30 orphans and then many more girls who are in need.. They are living outside Mercy Home with a relative. There are a couple of new girls at the home without shoes, so with your financial help we were able to buy shoes for them. There was one girl who had a deep cough and we went to the "chemist" pharmacy to get antibiotics and cough medicine. While we were in town we also bought bananas, pineapples, and Mellon for the girls. The group we are with are amazing. Wonderful people to know and work with. Today we finish up our painting and share more with the girls when they come home from school. I went into the small village again and bought more bananas, bread, laundry bar soap.. They do their laundry themselves with a bar soap. Then i bought them individual bar soap for their bodies. I found that this was a luxury for them. I also bought some more shoes, a new girl came Christine she is around 6 years old and never had shoes. She was so happy to receive sandals and gym shoes. Thanks again to your generosity. In the evening we ate around 8:30pm which is usual, had maze (corn meal) and kale. And the pineapple and Mellon we bought for them. Before dinner and after dinner prayers are said, and then after dinner the girls sang several of their songs. It was wonderful. Tomorrow we meet the high school and college age girls where Paul and I will present what it means to be in a relationship. Others will talk about health, and how to protect yourself from sexually transmitted disease, and women's rights.
